Record number of tourists stayed in Estonia in February.
In February, 152,000 tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments in Estonia, including both domestic adn foreign tourists, according to Statistics Estonia.During the month, 85,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments, a record result for February. Compared to February last year, 4,500 foreign tourists more stayed in accommodation establishments. The services of accommodation establishments used more tourists from Estonia’s neighbouring countries Russia, Latvia, Sweden and Norway as well as from Germany and United Kingdom. The number of tourists from Finland, accounting for 46% of the total number of accommodated foreign tourists in February, decreased by 5%.
From 1 January 2011, the euro is legal tender in Estonia. Joining the euro area reduces transaction costs, diminishes macroeconomic risks, deepens economic ties with other countries, and markedly changes the monetary policy environment in Estonia. Sustainable fiscal policy and successful exit from the global recession have improved the country’s credibility and the future outlook.
